Molly SpiraIntroduction by co-editor Molly Spira

My interests in the politics of healthcare stem from years of observation - working in the healthcare field in a variety of venues, and currently as an active advocate working with DES Action. Over the course of my long association with DES Action and other health advocacy organizations I have come to discover that we are neither simply nor selectively dealing only with a woman's reproductive issue, rather an issue that affects women, men and their children - globally - as well as more than one generation of families. The picture is much greater as all collective health care needs are more often than not determined by profit-driven pharmaceuticals, HMOs, and other special interests.

I'd like to give voice in this column to those who are working toward changing this inevitability.

Thanks to Nora Cody for her work and inspiration in driving this important column.

We welcome your comments, criticism, and suggestions for future columns.
