Kenzo's Vision

(AIR 0022)

Pianist/composer Glenn Horiuchi's fifth recording on Asian Improv has already garnered enthusiastic responses on the Internet and Option Magazine, and features Horiuchi on piano and shamisen (Japanese banjo), Francis Wong on sax, bambo flute, violin and erhu (Chinese violin), William Roper on tuba, and Jeanette Wrate on percussion. The selections range from the hilarious title cut, depicting a baby's dreams and diaper changes (inspired by Horiuchi's infant son), to the evocative exploration of death and food in "Salty Greens". Included from Horiuchi's monumental Little Tokyo series is "Terminal Island Sweep", which depicts the particularly harsh treatment of a Japanese American fishing community during the World War II internment.
